It's weird to put together a Clan force for a Clan that was "killed off," mostly, almost 20 years ago, but after reading Blaine Pardoe's "Forever Faithful" novel, about the end of CSJ and the beginnings of The Fidelis, I felt it almost necessary. Also, I actually had a short-lived CSJ-themed force back in the 90s as sort of a "black hat" unit but those 'Mechs were long since stripped and repainted. Also, Children of Kerensky.
With the new Clan Invasion box sets coming out this year, plus the new plastic Lance and Star packs, I decided I would take another look at MechCommander/MCGold for inspirations. The campaign to take Port Arthur is, at best, a footnote in the overall BattleTech history, but I had hour upon hour logged in on my first desktop PC when MC came out. When Gold came out, I redownloaded it and picked right back up with the fun. Now, as an in-universe type game, MC is absolutely ripe with smaller, ragtag force ideas. Taking a short lance of two Commandos and a Firestarter against Smoke Jaguar bondsmen to secure needed supplies is the stuff BattleTech is made of and the later missions where you're rocking an entire company (probably mostly Clantech assaults, if you use cheat codes to remove drop weight restrictions, not that -I- would ever do something like that) to fight off elite stars of Jaguars in the middle of cities... If I weren't already a huge BattleTech fanboy, that would have done it.
So Delta Galaxy has a decent paint scheme, that I don't struggle with, and it's fairly iconic enough as a Smoke Jag unit, but that could also become a Nova Cat one if I so choose (whether as a CNC proxy or if I wanted to expand later on, or a Fidelis unit if I want to add RotS units as well) with the forces available/that will be available throughout 2020. And, by building with the plastic Star/Lance Packs, this will be one of the most cost effective units I could run. Not to mention, now that my kiddo is getting old enough to play Alpha Strike, I'm a lot more comfortable with him using one-piece plastic 'Mechs (high quality though they are), than let him use a 19-piece metal Marauder.
Future campaign prospects include - Clan Invasion, Battle of Operation Bulldog, Task Force Serpent, The Great Refusal, and the 5th Succession War.
(I made a lot of changes from my initial spreadsheet. Now it won't even fit in one screen.)
